Is it possible to sue a defense contractor like KBR?

As a former soldier can you seek compensation for sicknesses attributed to faulty water purification which was the job the contractor? Perhaps even if these sicknesses followed you into civilian life after the military and a doctor can attest to the fact that the sickness can be considered waterborne. Recent reports indicate KBR did not properly treat water at some bases. Some of which I was living at.

  1. It's possible, but there are some serious hurdles - the government generally has immunity from lawsuit and that has at times been extended to contractors working for the government. Moreover, if the base was out of the country, there's a question of if an American court would even have jurisdiction.
