Question:

Is it possible to surgically repair a torn trapezius laparoscopically? Or is regular surgery always required?

My doctor thinks my trapezius muscle may be torn, which would require an MRI to confirm it and then surgery. I want to know if, in case I do need surgery, it's possible that I could have a minimally invasive surgery. (I know everyone's case is different, I just want to know if it is possible). Thanks.

  1. This will vary widely based on the physician, there are some physicians that would preform a c-section (tongue in cheek) if they could with a scope, there are others that would not use it at all.  The question is are you concerned with a big scar, healing time or something else.  Even if you have some tear of the trapezius they may not repair depending on the nature and extent of the tear.  But cosmetically you may want to repair the muscle.  I would make sure you discuss your concerns with the surgeon and tell them why you may want a scope procedure and if they don't use them then ask if they can refer you to another surgeon this is pretty common.  Hope this helps.
