Is it possible to swim from Kalmar, Sweden to Paviloska, Latvia? I read about someone who attempted it.?

He failed because of bad weather apparently. The article didn't say anything about the fact that there is a big island off the coast of Sweden. Wouldn't that get in the way of someone trying to swim to Latvia?

Yeah, he actually completed the swim.

He originally planned to swim from Gotland (the island) to Latvia, but due to weather he did swam in the opposite direction.

He started in Latvia and finished in Herrvik on the island Gotland. Finished on August 20th 2007.

Haven't read the story, but to me it seems very unlikely that it could succeed. The Baltic is far wider than the English Channel, and as you say, the island of Öland (which is a long island, stretching from south to north) is blocking the way.
