Question:

Is it possible to take a day trip from Rome to Assisi?

I've been to Rome and I've been to Assisi....I loved it! I'm going back to Rome this summer with my mother (she has never been) and would really like to take her to Assisi for a day. Is this possible? I went a few years ago and while I remember the towns and cities, I can't remember how long it took us to get there.

So, how far is Assisi from Rome and how much (we're on a budget) do you think it would cost to go there for a day? And, if it's pretty easy and not too costly to do this....what is the best way (more like the cheapest way) to get there? Bus?

Thank you for your help!

  1. Rome-Assisi : abt. 195 KM in 2h and half;

    you can catch a train or a Bus.

  2. Of course it's possible in just one day.They're not that distant and connections are rather easy.

    Best way is by train (and also cheapest unless you hop on a tourist bus but the trip will last longuer).

    By train it takes abt.2 -2 and half hours each way and the cost is depending on the trains (ES = Eurostar are the quickiest but also more expensive- 2nd class cost Euro 16 per persone - one way-  seat reservation is mandatory - it's possible however to buy tickets and make reservations on line.

    Website of Trenitalia (the Italian Railway system) is

    http://www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html

    and this is a trains' schedule I've searched for you

    By considering train tickets,feeding (not in restaurant- just pizza and sandwiches), entrances to churches and museums the trip should cost you from 80 to100 Euro each.

    (100-130 US$ x person)
