I am a member of a group of which it's owner has abandoned it, and has high bouncing count, dozens of members with no yahoo ID, and a spammer who is insulting and aggrivating. Please help, if can't get ownership, can it be closed?

  1. there's zillions of groups in this same spot.

it is said that if you contact yahoo, they will appoint a moderator (not an owner) if a poll is conducted to vote one in by the members of the group. however yahoo hasn't said what priviledges they'd give as moderator. some have reported that contacting yahoo, they said they could and would do nothing.

some have said they tried this method, and once yahoo knew there was no active owner, they deleted the group as part of clean-up.

your other choice is to create another group and invite those active members to it. this is probably the better of choice since there's then be an owner.

either way, here's the help form

  2. Yahoo generally doesnt give ownership of one group to another...they deal everything on technical basis.....nothing personal....so if one group is violation its rules and regulations, it will be deleted one day or the other....there is nothing like transfer of ownership...

  3. Since it is quite unlikely you will be able to take over the group, what you might consider, if you have access to the membership list is to start a similiar group, slight name variation and post a message  and/ or email  as many members as you can asking them to join the new group.  Needless to say the spammer would not be welcome however if he/she joined you could put them on moderation.

  4. In rare instances, Yahoo will allow someone to take over a group but usually they will not allow this. At times, they will delete a group (but not always) - it's "iffy" on what they will do.  You could send a Yahoo Groups Help Form and explain the situation.  Here's the link to the Help Form:  http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/groups/...

If you should get ownership, you would have a lot of house cleaning to do. First of all make the group Restricted and hide the membership list, then go through all the group settings and secure all areas well.  Good luck!
