  1. Yes, you can take too many vitamins.  For instance, since you mentioned vitamin A, Medline Plus says "If you get too much vitamin A, you can become sick. Large doses of vitamin A can also cause birth defects. Acute vitamin A poisoning usually occurs when an adult takes several hundred thousand IU.  Symptoms of chronic vitamin A poisoning may occur in adults who regularly take more than 25,000 IU a day. Babies and children are more sensitive and can become sick after taking smaller doses of vitamin A or vitamin A-containing products such as retinol (found in skin creams).

I'd suggest that you consult a doctor, pharmacist, or other medical professional.

  2. Yes it is possible to ingest too many vitamins.  If you take a multivitamin with extra calcium then there is no need to take the "A" separately.  It is a fat soluble vitamin, which means that it gets stored in the bodies fat stores.  Which could lead to an overdose. Other fat soluble vitamins are D, E, K, which should taken with care a s well.

  3. no. not really. your body can only take a certain amount. so if you eat ,like, 500000000000 vitamins. your just wasting money.

  4. ive always heard, that what your body doesnt need to absorb, will be flushed out when urinating.  notice how when you take a lot of vitamins your urine looks and smells stronger??  those are the nutrients that the body doesnt need.

  5. It is...but it doesn't sound as if you're over doing it. It's hard for all of us to try to be absolutely sure we're getting all the, so called RDA of all essential vitamins we need. I watch my diet very closely but I don't take a count, so to speak, of the exact amounts of certain vitamins I'm taking in. I'm not worried about the amount of zinc or boron I take in, because those are trace elements that aren't required in large amounts to do what they're designed to do. I do know that if I eat just one six ounce of Salmon a week I'm loaded with enough zinc to last a week, but it's not something I worry with. The body is an amazing machine. If you took an overloaded amount of C the body would use what it needs and discard the rest. However, that doesn't mean taking four times the amount you need of any item you body will take care of it. That much of an overload can cause problems within the system and you'd notice it...it would take a while, but you'd notice it..

Being a woman and being able to bear children does require some overload of certain vitamins, especially C and D. Aside form being pregnant a good well rounded diet will provide you with all you need. For women and most men over 40 it's good to take a little more of some vitamins, but if the diet is right just one single multi is all you need.

  6. yes and no...

really only fat soluble vitamins (A,D, E & K) as they get stored in the liver and in fat cells.  the body has no storage capacity for water soluble vitamins, when they are digested the body will use what it needs at that time and excrete the rest.  that is one of the many reasons why frequent meals need to be consumed over the course of the day.

  7. Yes    too may vitamins could KILL you

  8. Agreeing with the previous poster, fyi too much vitamin C will give you the trots!
