Is it possible to talk to a doctor about a possible mental disorder without your family knowing?

Can i go see a doctor to talk to them about my mental conditions i have without my family knowing? I don't want them to know at all. I want to be sure that there is something wrong with me before anyone finds out about it.

If you are a kid, maybe not. You can ask your doctor about confidentiality. I think it may differ in each state.

It depends on your age and where you live. In Australia I believe if you are over 16(?) it is kept completely confidential.

Give your local Dr's office a call and they will be able to tell you for sure.

Depends on which country you live in and whether you will have to pay the doctors fee. In some countries you can, in others you cant without your parents knowledge.

Just phone up the doctors office, see if you can make an appointment, let them know how old you are and ask if you need to pay any medical bills and whether the appointment will remain confidential.  If not, then make the appointment and good luck.

Otherwise see a guidance counsellor at school and ask them about it.

Talking to a doctor is like talking to a priest. He is sworn to secrecy. Whatever you say to him will remain confidential forever.

At least this is the case in the UK, no matter how young you may be. He may not divulge any personal information you give, or mention any medication you are prescribed, or any advice you seek no what it is for.
