Okay so i just asked a question about mice and such blah blah.

any way if my trap works and i catch the mice (I think they might be young rats though) would it be possible for me to tame them and keep them as pets? I live In hawaii and there are no rabies here. I found them in my garden and i cought one but he got away. Wehn i did have him he wouldnt bite me or run away from my hand. They are young and were in my garden (so they shouldnt have too many diseases right?) So is it possible that i can tame them and keep them as pets?

  1. Rats are great pets, but I do not know if you can domesticate a wild rat. Go to the pet store and buy a domestic rat.

  2. yes, of course! if they dont bite or run away theyre fine.

  3. Wild rats will stay wild.  I raised some baby rats once, and the things were crazy wild.

If you want a pet rat, get one from the pet store.

  4. Extremely possible!!!  Rats are very intelligent and very friendly.  They learn tricks easily too.  Rats actually make wonderful pets...

Even wild ones make good pets if captured young enough.

I have had them - so I am speaking from experience.

  5. If they're adults it could be extremely difficult. If you find a litter of almost newborns then it might be able to be done. Chances are, if a rat is wild it will stay wild, and though you might be able to keep it as a pet, you might not ever be able to hold it safely. Also, since rats live only around 2 years you might not even have enough time to train it. But you can try. :) Anythings possible and im just guessin cuz iv never tried it.
