I have coconut husk substrate in my tank for my toads. It's been about a week and a half and I'm thinking it's time to thoroughly clean it but I haven't found any information on how to clean it, if that's possible. Can it be boiled and reused or do I have to completely swap it out for new substrate?

  1. I wash coconut husk substrate in cool water with a cap full of bleach, then leave it to dry in the sun.

Bleach becomes inert in sunshine and perfectly safe once its dry.

  2. I have Asian painted frogs and use the same type of stuff in my tank. You can't really reuse it but it should only need to be totally changed about once a month.I tidy up each day when I change their water bowl and remove any frog p**p I see, also make sure it is damp but not to wet because it can get moldy and gross stuff could start growing in it.
