To not bring home her kills? She is an indoor/outdoor cat. She is 4 years old. I know cats kill mice, birds, moles, etc... and I know she always has, but in the last month she has decided to bring these treats home. I wouldn't care except, she leaves them in front of the door. She has even brought a couple of half live birds in the house. She never used to do this. This has just been in the last month, before that I never saw the evidence, so why now, and is there a way to stop her?

  1. She wants you to be proud! lol. I know it's gross but you just have to clean it up and know that its just what cats do. My cat left a mouse she found in the garage by the door and my older sister screamed like she got stabbed or something lol. I just cleaned it up and was happy that my kitty was keeping the vermin out! :P

  2. they are presents for you! maybe she feels you need a little "pick me up" praise her, this is what she does, be proud.

  3. No, you really can't "train" her not to bring her kills home to you. She is paying you her highest compliment: taking care of her human in the best way she knows how!   She is "feeding" you!  you should never scold her for this behavior--it is what she does by instinct and what cats do best!  This is behavior you want to encourage in your cat, not discourage--if you ever had mice in your house, you'd know why.  As for the live animals, sometimes this happens too--don't be too hard on her.

Now how to deal with these? Pick them up with rubber gloves on your hands--fleas and germs can a problem otherwise--and just dispose of them in your outside garbage. If you want, you can bury them somewhere, so that nature will take care of them. don't just kick them to the curb--or your cat may bring them BACK--(wondering the whole time why you aren't grateful! LOL...)

My cat once brought me a huge live toad. It must have tasted horrible because he just kept cleaning his mouth and paws--but there was nothing wrong with the toad, (except that it was terrified!) and I simply thanked him and put it outside again. I don't know how my cat picked it up--it weighed almost an entire pound! So you can get some pretty interesting surprises.
