I want to get this one horse, but he isn't much of a runner. He is 7 years old, and I want to know if I could train him to be faster so we can do barrel racing.

  1. Depending on the horse.  Some horses don't like to run and you would have a lot harder time doing it but it is possible.  I am a horse lover so I suggest not trying to get the horse to do anything that it doesn't want to do.  Sometimes going fast can even scare horses if they don't like it!  They whole rodeo, lots of people, noise, and running fast doesn't appeal to every horse.

  2. it isnt that hard.feed it only berries, wheat, and cheese. also put a parachute on it and hit the hills

  3. it shouldn't be any harder than training your Dad to join the track team. Age can't be trained away.

  4. well if you try you just might make the horse go faster.

  5. 7 YEARS OLD IS YOUNG! I thought this question would be about maybe a 23-29 year old! Wow! So yes, he could be easily trained to run barrels "fast". But my advice is check out his temperment overall- if hes a lazy QH pleasure type, he might not be the best horse suited for your discpline. On the other hand if he bred for barrels a QH would prob. do the job best! Also other "hotter" breeds such as an arabian run barrels well so check around before settling on a horse that might not fit your needs.
