I'm a college NROTC student attending school of a 4-year Marine option ROTC contract. I'd like to got to law school and then become a Lawyer for the Marine Corps. The issue is that upon graduation from college I'll be commissioned and head of to TBS (with no law degree) and be placed into a different MOS. Bottom line, I want to lead marines, but I feel like I could contribute to the Corps very well as a Judge Advocate. Is there a way for me to work my way toward that position though I'd be initially in a different MOS? Where would I find time to attend law school? What advice can you give? All guidance is much needed and greatly appreciated.

  1. How far into your schooling are you?  The best thing to do would be to try to get as many of your law school classes done now as possible, enabling you to obtain your law degree around the time (or soon after) you graduate.  Best would be if you can make arrangements with the ROTC program you're involved in to switch your major.  If that's not possible, the Marines do offer tuition assistance and generally encourage their members to continue their schooling as much as possible.  There are assignments you could get that would allow you to attend school in the evenings and/or on weekends, as well as through online courses.  Once you obtain your law degree, you would be eligible to apply to the JAG program.  This is definitely something you should discuss with your ROTC contact (or recruiter) as soon as possible to help determine the best course of action for you right now.
