  1. You can indeed move the company file to another machine, BUT you need to be able to then MAP the network drives to the new machine.  Before starting have everyone log out of Quick Books and change the "server" to single user mode!

To move the file - simply copy the company file "mycompany.qbw"  (usually its best to copy any files with your company name on them)  to the new machine, it should copy into the Quick Books folder usually in the Intuit Directory under the Programs Files directory on the new machine.  (Quick Books 6 has to already be installed on whatever machine you intend to use!)  You then need to "share" that folder.

Then on EACH client machine, those without the file, you have to go to the My network places, click on view workgroup computers, then on the new machines location,  then right click on the shared folder for Quick Books and click "Map as Network Drive"

When opening the new location from the "client" use the new drive letter for the file. You should also remove the mapped drives for the OLD "server".

If you don't understand any of the above - call an expert or you will mess up your network!
