  1. Rule of thumb; its firewire to firewire & USB to USB. Check with the manufacturers support site for your camcorder for software, FAQ's, and a MANUAL!!


  2. Probably not!  Some of the cables I've seen seem to be nothing more than a cable with different plugs on each end - they can't work!  There are firewire to usb converters, but they're a lot more expensive than firewire cards and do an inferior job.

  3. it is not the pins or the cable, but the data protocol is different. ieee1394 data is optimized for continuous high speed streaming. USB is for data bursts

  4. No. For the most part, the video editing application will not recognize video to be imported from the USB port.
