Question:

Is it possible to transfer to a school after just one semester if I'm a freshman?

I just started attending the University of South Carolina a couple days ago as a freshman. It was not one of my top choices and now that I'm here I've decided I really don't like it. I wanted to attend Penn State but never got around to filling out my application while I was applying to schools. I was just wondering if I would have a chance at applying for the Spring 2009 semester. I know that they require 18 hours of college credit before applying as a transfer (I will only have 16) but I am willing to apply as a new student. But what I want to know is:

1. Is it even possible for me to transfer?

2. Will I get credit for the classes I will have completed at USC if I have not completed at least 18 credits and am not applying as a transfer student?

3. I understand that Penn State University Park may not have openings for Spring 2009 and I am willing to attend Penn State Harrisburg and eventually transfer to University Park, does this campus make a difference in my probability that I will be accepted?

Thanks!

  1. yesss

  2. You probably will not be allowed in as a 2nd semester freshman, but call and ask to make sure. Just aim for getting in the next fall as a sophomore. As for the credits, you should call up the transfer office and ask or contact the departments that relate to the course you have taken. Look through their course catalog and see if any classes there match up with one that you took. It is not too much of a big deal if you lose a few credits because you will be transferring rather early.

  3. Start researching as you are now because the semester can go so fast.  However, by then you make start liking it.  Sometimes it's because of the atmosphere and missing home.  Give yourself a chance to like it; explore new places and be nice to others.  Before you know it, you might fall in love with a place that seemed so uninviting.  That's the way I felt about when I relocated to WDC.  I hated the place but I met so many good friends and people.  In a matter of fact, I met someone who was from my home time.  I will miss him - they had his funeral today.  You never know what God may have in store for you.  Give it a while before you give up.

As far as college cred transferring, each school has it's say so to worry the dickens out of you.  However, it it is 18, hand in there to the end of the school year and then you will qualify.  Make sure you have all the info down packed so you won't come up short or take something that is not transferrable.  Seek an adviser now.

    God Bless you.

  4. When you are that hot looking, ANYTHING is possible.

  5. 1. It all depends on the school; research Penn State's transfer admissions requirements; many schools would allow you to transfer with only one semester, yet some schools require a year or don't accept spring transfers; though in your case, it seems you will still be applying as an "Incoming Freshman" or something like that, in which case I don't know much about; just look more into Penn State's admissions requirements

    2. Check the credit transferability at Penn State; you should be able to get credit despite not taking 18 credit hours, but again that depends on Penn State

    3. Your performance and aptitude determine acceptance, not the school you previously attended; I went to a small private school in North Carolina but got accepted to the University of Southern California      as a transfer student

  6. Most schools will NOT take a transfer student after one semester--there is usually a minimum number of credits you need to obtain before applying.  I would try directly for University when you can, rather than go to Harrisburg and then UP.  You may end up losing credits along the way.  You will need good grades, as you will not be using your HS transcript as a transfer student (usually).

  7. anything is possible if you put your mind to it. maybe you should give it a little more time. i mean you havent even gotten settled yet.

  8. sup girl u r 2 fine we shuld hook up so u can xperience how a real man duz it cuz i no thos sucka white boy u messin wit can handle it lemme no if u wanna taste some chocolate

  9. It is possible for you to transfer but make sure you get good grades. Most schools accept juniors so you might run into complications and some of your classes will be wasted.
