Is it possible to transplant crepe myrtles at this time of year?

I live in South Carolina. We're clearing some of our property for pasture and need to move several crepe myrtles. They range in size from 4-8 feet tall. I know early spring is the best time, but this can't be avoided. Any suggestions?

  1. NG I would say this is the worst time to transplant your Crepe myrtle.  I would guess they will die, you may luck out by giving lots of extra water.  I know they are very drought resistance as I have two here in south GA.

  2. You are very nearly at the end of optimum time to transplant.

Crape myrtles need enough time to root out into soil before cold temperatures induce dormancy.

If you can get it done before the end of August and take care of the transplants, they should be fine.
