  1. Yes, and very comfortably - pensions etc, no need to go hostel. and eat where the locals, not tourists eat!

  2. Absolutely, in larger cities you may want to hostel but cheap hotels abound.  Smaller towns you will do quite well with it.  If your by yourself get a Spanish Rail Pass.  If two or more rent a car.  Few roads have tolls, you can get to more out of the way places on your schedule and it is less expensive for 2 or more than rail.  Careful in big cities though because parking cane be expensive.

  3. Yes, you could do so by hostelling and purchasing a Eurail pass.  See below for more information.  Spain is a place where you can eat fairly cheaply.

I hope this information helps.  Have a safe and wonderful trip.  Take care.

  4. Definitely, but without luxuries. Stay in Hostales or Pensiones instead of hotels.

Eating inexpensive is not too difficult, buy yourself the makings of a good "Bocadillo" at a local supermarket (LIDL, DIA & PLUS are the cheapest..Mercadona gives you the best for your money.) And always carry a bottle of mineral water with you (average 0,35 to 0,45 euros).

If you want a fling treat yourself to a "Tapa"  with a nice cool drink (The tapa is free if you are anywhere in Granada (city or province)

most of the rest of the country you'll pay for it, but it is inexpensive (Tapas are local dishes served in mini-portions like a snack with your drink) A tapa should never be more than a euro.

If you don't have a EURORAIL PASS, do your traveling by bus, it is a bit less comfy, but cheaper.
