I been wondering...

Is it possible to turn the lights on with your computer?

I saw a burglar system which when it was set off it could do stuff like turn all the lights in your house on!

Yes, it is possible to do that and much more.  Check out X10.  A friend of mine bought a few of these boxes and rigged them to his fish tank to turn the lights and pump on and off.  You can do the same with just about anything that plugs in to an outlet.

were fat already we can go get up and turn the lights on ourselves.

Yes, it can be done but the downside is that you would have to purchase interfaces for your lighting circuts and that isn't cheap :(
