Is it possible to upgrade an existing (cable driven) throttle on an outboard engine to a "Fly-By-Wire" system?

I have a mercury Saltwater 150 circa 2004(ish) and I was interested in upgrading to the new Fly-By-Wire system. Is there somewhere where I can purchase the hardware to do this or have it upgraded for me? Also, roughly how much would this cost?

Thanks

  1. Yes, you can do it.  But why?  The benefits and reliability of the "Fly-By-Wire" should outweigh the benefits and reliability of the cable driven system.  Delicate electronics and saltwater are not a good match.  We are talking about stepping motors, sensors, and wire.  Remember the old adage "K I S S", keep it simple stupid.  I want reliability and security when I am out on the water.  Before you embark on this project, please keep thinking to yourself "Reliability".
