Question:

Is it possible to use a Bicycle to power a boombox?

I was thinking of hooking an alternator maybe from like a car to a bicycle and have a separate gear to spin the alternator to a battery. You think just by bicycling around it be enough to charge the battery in order to power a small boombox? I was thinking of using a converter to convert the battery into 120v , so basically just plug the boombox in. Anyone who have an idea about this feel free to shed some knowledge. Thx

  1. do it with a trike! you have an axle to work with, and most have a basket under the seat/over the axle.

  2. i wouldnt recommend trying it the bike would be to heavy to ride with and u would hav to make sum proper modifications .

  3. I understand the idea, but I see three problems ... weight, power output, and the drive mechanism.

I think to get the power you need the alternator, inverter and battery -- not to mention the drive mechanism, boombox and mounting platform to hold it all would be pretty heavy, possibly over 100 lbs, and thats a lot to carry around. And building a drive mechanism would requires some significant adaption of the bike.

Overall -- unless the objective is to prove you can do it (if so the links below may give you some ideas) -- I think you would be much better off to use rechargable batteries and to simply carry a spare set.
