ok, i have an 8 year old Dell Dimension 4400, with a 6.7 gig hard drive, and a 2.8 gig hard drive. well, for school, i got a 4 gig flash drive, and i was wondering if i could tie it in somehow to make it like a hard drive. (installing programs, downloading files straight to it... etc.) like as a slave or something. i dont want answers saying "that one's easy. get a new hard drive, they're only... blah blah" because I am 14 years old, and i DONT have a job. my parents are cheap as well, and wont buy me a new one. i only want an answer to my question of "is it possible to use..."

  1. Yes, it's basically a second hard drive until you remove it.  I don't recommend it though because it could easily be removed so I recommend taping it on, s******g it on, or doing something that will keep it there.  If I was in your position I would just get a new computer (save up, computers are cheaper these days).  That's how I got a laptop after my first laptop (a Toshiba Satellite) broke in 2 years.

  2. Yes, of course, but if you run programs off of it, you must leave it plugged in a lot. Move your document, pics, stuff like that to it.

It'll show up as removable disk X:\ just move stuff  there.

  3. Yes, you can.  Having said that, flash drives don't tend to last as long as hard drives.  Then again, most people take flash drives with them, so they may get banged up a bit.  If you leave your flash drive plugged into a desktop computer, it may well last longer than most.

  4. yes you can use it... flash drive is usually slow but your computer is so old with such small hard drives it would probably be a big improvement for you
