Is it possible to use a router that is not connected to the internet as a Local area network for my printer and Xbox 360 which I use as a media extender for my television? If so how can I do this? I currently am using an hp laptop that is wirelessly connected to the internet from my roommate’s router. I want to use my router just as a private LAN for the printer and Xbox.

  1. No. You'll need a network printer, or a print server.

  2. Yes, you can use a router to control a LAN that does not access the internet or a higher level network. I am assuming that the printer you have is either network ready or has a print server. Otherwise, it will have to connect to the network through a computer

  3. You should just be able to plug them into the router. Make sure the router has DHCP on.

  4. yes you can

  5. As a test, I disconnected my DSL from my Lynsys router, and my second computer still has access to the Main computer.

So- on my wired LAN, yes, it is possible.
