I have an idea! Is it somehow possible to reverse the effect of carbon-monoxide coming out of the exhaust pipe! Use the carbon-monoxide as a fuel and make oxygen come out!

  1. You can indeed use carbon monoxide as a fuel, it will burn, but what comes out is not oxygen, it is carbon dioxide.

      2CO+O2 -----> 2CO2

  2. You think you're the first person to ever think of this? Of course, it's not possible.

  3. The level of Carbon Monoxide coming out of the tail pipe of an automobile is measured in parts per Million (PPM or Mg/Lit). This is a very small quantity.

    However, it looks like you wanted to know if these tail gases can be used as fuel.

    The most important component of the exhaust gas is Nitrogen Dioxide (NOx). This is a pollutant gas causing Nitric Acid Rain. We don't have much use for that.

    The other gas is Carbon Dioxide (Co2). A lot of research work is going on to separate the Carbon and Oxygen from the Co2 bond. This is a type of Carbon Sequestration activity.

    Unfortunately, till date the technique has not been discovered, but when it will be, we can endlessly reverse the combustion process.

    This would be akin to the solar activity of Fission and Fusion.

  4. Hmmm....

    interesting thought.........

    Noooooooo!
