  1. No, and not euros either, only Sterling £ (GBP)

  2. Generally no.  Also, places that MIGHT accept Dollars will give you an even worse exchange rate than the banks.

Try to use plastic for as many purchases as possible.  Credit and debit card transactions almost always offer the best exchange rate and the lowest fees (usually zero fee).

When withdrawing cash from an ATM try to use machines that are affiliated with a real bank.  The kind in hotel lobbies, restaurants/pubs, and shops usually charge high fees.  Also call your home bank/credit card issuer to ask if they have any "partner" banks/institutions in London that allow you to use their ATMs for a reduced fee.

This is not a "stupid" question and I encourage others to report the first answer as insulting.  There are MANY places in the world where using the local currency is optional and it is practical to simply pay with Dollars, Euros, Pounds, Swiss Francs, etc.

  3. No, I'm sorry.

    Bartering...

  4. You can NOT use travellers cheques of any type (dollar or sterling) in the UK without first changing them at a bank or a hotel cashier.

You can bring dollars but you must exchange them for pounds sterling before you can use them - Post Offices and some Marks and Spencer stores will change money without commission.

    ...

  5. No, but you can use travel cheques

  6. No you can't.  I've lived in this city for my entire life and I have never come across anywhere that accepts dollars.  Why would anywhere accept dollars - can you buy things in the US with British pounds?

  7. Nope sorry you cant use Euros or Travellers cheques either but you can go to the Bureau de Change and get the dollars changed into pounds =]

  8. maybe in the bottom of a bird cage,

most developed countries dont except US dollars,

try marks and Spencer's or the post office.
