I'm planning to visit Jakarta at the end of September. But Indonesia has ramadan during that month.

Is it possible to visit Jakarta for sightseeing? Are shops and restaurants open? I'm not going to night club or something. I just want to look around the city and eat foods.

  1. It is possible to visit Jakarta for sight seeing and food tasting during the month of Ramadan. The city consists of many different religious and non-religious folks. Restaurants and shops are usually open. You actually may find street vendors offering delicacies that are only around during Ramadan.

Of course, like going to any foreign countries for the first time, you should always respect the locals and their customs. I think if you'd keep your head level and not look for troubles, you'd be fine.

  2. Is it possible? Sure. So is bashing myself in the head repeatedly with a brick.

Honestly, Jakarta sucks a great deal even during normal times of the year. It just sucks more during Ramadan. The idiot FPI are always running around in their white dresses and sheets trying to beat religion into their fellow citizens with bamboo poles. Just this year the beat the h**l out of other Muslims at a peaceful demonstration for religious tolerance. Every Ramadan, the FPI also terrorize expats, tourists and locals by storming in and destroying pubs, restaurants and clubs. The police let it happen. They let the FPI do whatever they want because the FPI pay them off. The FPI will also force small shop and warung owners to close their eating establishments during the day, under threat of violence. Making it difficult for you to even try traditional foods during the day.

If you want to visit Indonesia at that time of year, stay away from Jakarta, seriously. That so-called 'capital city' is full of retarded, uneducated religious fanatics. Besides that, what the h**l is there to see in Jakarta? The pollution covered national monument? The strips of prostitutes and drag queens? The police standing on the side of the road begging for Idul Fitri money? The soot covered buildings? The fat old expats banging 12 year old girls in Blok M?

  3. Yes, of course. I've been living her forever and I know.
