Is it possible to walk across the US/Canada border?

I'm interested in walking from US to Canada. I've heard crossing the border has been getting stricter, so is it even possible to just walk across?

They only have one guard that patrols the entire 4,000 mile border and he walks kind of slow. So, you should be able to dodge him.

I believe you can still walk across the bridges here in Niagara Falls.  (just not the Lewiston-Queenston)  The Rainbow Bridge between the US and Canada has a great view of the Falls.  The toll used to only be like 10 cents for pedestrians, but I'm sure it's much higher now.

It isn't at any of the crossings I have been to. They are all set up for going through in cars. At some of the more remote locations this may be possible. If you did walk across you would still need to present two forms of ID, birth certificate, passport, driver's license etc.

Yes, you can walk across the border but I would suggest you cross at a proper Port of Entry.  There are cameras and motion sensors along most of the border and it is patrolled quite heavily so keep it legal and stay out of trouble.  You do not want to be picked up by Homeland Security.

If you cross at a LEGAL port of entry between USA and Canada, then yes you can. You do not need a car or a bus.

However, since most border crossings are in the middle of nowhere, do you plan to hike there or walk on the side of the road? Be sure that however you get to the border crossing, you are not breaking the law, such as walking on the side of a highway which may be illegal in some states or provinces.

And if you were planning on hiking across WITHOUT going to the border crossing, then watch out. Although the borders are not necessarily manned all the way along, they do have sensors that detect motion, satellite or aircraft surveillance, border agents on horseback or ATV, and in some parts of the states, local militias (complete with firearms) do their own monitoring...you could be trespassing on private property, giving them the right to shoot first and ask questions later!

My advice...cross where you are allowed to, and take a bus because it is easier.

Yes you can but make sure you have all your documents with you (picture ID,birth certificate or valid passport)

Oh, yes, but it can be dangerous, not only because of border patrol/immigration, etc., but walking in "no man's land" can be exceedingly dangerous.  Many a man has died out there trying to cross the border.
