  1. It is possible to walk in the eye of hurricane, although it is not recommended. Hurricane eyes can be as wide as 50 miles, most are just 10 miles wide. The eye within a very well developed hurricane can have absolutely no clouds in it and winds will be surprisingly calm. It is very easy for people to believe that the storm is over when in fact only half of it has passed. Within a matter of a minute, dark-billowing clouds, winds in excess of 100 mph and very heavy rain will arrive.

Therefore, it is not a good idea to walk outside during the passage of the eye. You will know whether or not the eye is passing above by watching the weather channel or by listening to a NOAA weather radio which will relay information regarding the postition of the hurricane.

  2. Yes it is..... been there done that.....

  3. Yes, the eye is the calmest part of a hurricane. But the other parts of the hurricane will soon arrive. So it isnt a good idea to do it.

  4. Yes the eye is the only calm part but right outside the eye is the eye wall which I believe is the strongest part of a hurricane. I've been told the eye looks very interesting because he can see clouds swirling around on the end of the eye, I wouldn't know though, I've never been in a hurricane.

  5. yah...but hard to stay in the eye

  6. Absolutely. The eye of a hurricane is very calm.

  7. Yes i suppose it would be possible, just not probable.

While the eye of a hurricane is characteristically "calm", it is surrounded by what is called the eyewall which has the strongest winds measured in the hurricane.  The eye will have periodic bursts of high winds that bellow upwards, making it impossible to walk around for very long, though between gusts, you might be able to get a few steps in.
