Is it possible to wire an outside light to a plug or dose it need to be wired into another light rose?

i have an outside light under a lean to also have plug sockets inside the lean to i want another light on the other side could i do the simple thing and fix the light where i want it drill through wall thread wire and put a plug on end

  1. a bit dodgy - you can but remember to put a fuse 5 amp or less in the plug.


  2. Extension cords are not allowed as a permanent wiring method.

    The light must be installed per the Manufacturer's Installation Instructions, and, per its listing and labeling.

    The National Electrical Code requires that all splices be made in listed and approved boxes, that are sized correctly for the conductor volume that is contained within them.

    Three strikes; you're out.

    Play it safe and do it right, or not at all.

  3. The cord on a plug is not designed for outdoor service.

    Even an exterior rated extention cord will eventually

    fail if you thread it through a hole.

    It's not advisable.

    If you do this, better check on the condition of

    that cord often, and unplug it when you're not there.
