For example, you can work at a private law firm and then be part of a legal aid association that gives you cases from time to time. Is there a legal aid association for disadvantaged people that hires private attorneys to argue cases?

  1. Most firms allow (and some even encourage) their partners and associates to take on a certain amount of pro bono work.  It is just a matter of asking the interviewer as to the firm's policies regarding pro bono.

  2. with your average firm you you will be putting in a lot of billing hours 60-80 hours depending on the firm and you would not be able to provide quality legal service in legal aide office. you can do this, but after you have proved yourself at your firm and then you could work in legal aide or probono cases. but first practice law and become good at what you do and know your firm and c how you could work serving legal aide on the side. are you going for partner
