Is it possibly for smoke from the california wildfires to get to south dakota!!!?

  1. Most likely not. There probably isn't a consistent wind that goes all the way from California to South Dakota, and even if there was the smoke would probably dissipate to much to even be detectable unless you had a mass spectrometer.

    The point is, you're probably safe!


  2. Most of the smoke we had yesterday was from fires in Canada, but some may have been from California.  If you follow this link, it will show you the smoke pattern for North America from wild fires. http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/PS/FIRE/hms.html

  3. Isn't there a mountain range between you?

    At any rate, that's a substantial distance, and I suspect the smoke would disperse before it could reach you.

    I have family about 150 miles from the nearest wildfire, and they report the smell of smoke is all over the area.
