Question:

Is it practical, not just possible, to grown hops in a container 5gal?

This would be given that other requirements: sun, water, minerals, trellis were met.

  1. i don't think that is enough space, if you want a decent quantity....

    separate vines should be grown at least five feet apart and then wrapped around trellises when they grow a couple of feet.  I guess it could be done but I think it should be avoided unless you are just curious


  2. That'd be a tough challenge... commercial hops vines are grown on 18 ft tall trellises.  5 gallons of root mass just wouldn't begin to balance that much shoot.  The second picture here is a hops field fairly local to me... those are telephone poles holding the trellis wires up:
