Is it professional for teachers to wear ugs?

Question

I was fighting about this with someone-

if the teacher is wearing nice black slacks and nice dress shirt- hair and makeup nicely done, Can she wear black simple ugs under her pants?

I have a bad foot and it's painful for me to wear certian shoes- I wear ugs currently all the time now in the winter time. I meet the CEO of major departement stores with ugs (everyone is the fashion industry wears them) on so I don't see a problem with it if I wear them while I student teach. My mother and my husband thinks it's unprofessional!

if you are wearing your black uggs I think that you would be ok. when I was student teaching at Pb i wore my uggs all the time. They are comfortable. Like Jer knows about fashion. Ha ha ha ha ha ah ah laughing my butt off right now!

As a teacher, I wear Uggs all winter....

But this is something a friend of mine used to say all the time while student teaching, regarding dress attire.

Where we student taught, there was no dress code.  The teachers wore what they wanted.  She'd always say, "They don't have a dress code.  They have the contract and a job.  We don't have either of those.  We need to dress professionally."

She had a pretty good idea about that.

That being said, if you dress nicely and the Uggs are clean and not ratty looking, I'd say it's not a big deal, unless there's a dress code.  If you don't know yet, I'd wait a couple days/weeks to check out what the teachers wear then make up your mind.  But keep my friend's advice in the back of your mind when dressing for school.

It's not unprofessional if it doesn't violate any dress codes. And since she was wearing them to class it obviously doesn't. You'd be surprised at what teachers can actually wear to class, as long as it isn't S****y  or leave too much to the imagination, and they look smart then they can pretty much wear what they want. Most teachers I know wear jeans and sneakers  or high-heels, skirts etc.

teachers in my school wear jeans and t's and pretty much anything under the sun. no one really cares.

On a practical level, yes, why not.

On a fashion level, for God's sake by some proper shoes!

No it isn't unprofessional, but it is if they violate the teacher's uniform rules that state you cannot wear boots.

I'm a trainee teacher and over the winter I work in quite a few primary schools where I wear ugg boots - so do a lot of the qualified teachers.

Just check you can actually wear them, if so, there is nothing wrong.
