Question:

Is it proper to mail resume to police departments?

There are hundreds of departments in my general vicinity that I want to apply to. I really want to be a police officer but I also have a family and a full time job. To go in person to each and every department to apply is just not possible. Is it ok to just send resumes? Or is it really important to actually fill out an application?

  1. I would go their website, whether they are handled through the city, county, etc.  There should be postings for all the govt job positions there.  Or you can just go to a job fair.  There may be multiple municipalities represented there.  But Im thinking most police depts are so desperate for  people, it shouldn't be hard to land a job.  Good luck!

  2. Depending on the department, mailing a resume might get you an application my mail.  Might also be a waste of time, paper and stamps.  You might send a resume and request an application. Bigger department might have down loadable applications on-line.  An application filled out is always better than just a resume.

  3. Fill out the application. It's what you will be required to do anyway.

    Good luck

  4. you can't just send in a resume or fill out an app.  they have to be hiring, and if they are then they give a test and you have to sign up to take it.  most of the time there is a fee too.  check to newspapers, if they are giving a test anytime soon it will be there.
