Is it "g*y" for men to belly dance?

Yeah, I'm a guy, and for some reason unknown to me I've had the urge to learn how to belly dance. Now let's say I were to learn and go out and show my friends, would they call me g*y? --Just curious--

not necessarily- i guess it depends where you live...but in the US, I think it would be sorta creepy...btw, are your friends girls or guys, cuz if theyre guys DONT show it to them!

I've seen both g*y and straight belly dancers.

It's not the dance that makes you g*y.

However the straight men weren't as good ( from the ones I have seen- I'm sure there is someone out there to prove it wrong)

Some types of belly dance like persian ( bandari) will incorporate more men, rather than american style .

I don't believe so. I mean your friends may say so, but many women will find it very hot. You could even use your belly dancing to work some other dances moves. Ever seen Dirty Dancing? Very awesome!!

Nope.  Traditional Middle Eastern belly dancers have always included men and women.  They didn't necessarily dance together, and, the movements and styles are different, but, make belly dancing is not particularly "g*y."

I suggest you find a dance studio that specializes in Middle Eastern dance.  That way you can learn the male forms of the dance and not have to worry so much about the "gayness" of your interests.

If you've ever eaten at a high end, Moroccan restaurant, you will find that the entertainment to include male and female dancers.

However, one caveat, if you plan to show off to your friends:  If someone is not from that culture, they might STILL look at you funny before they learned to appreciate your skills.
