  1. Vietnam.

Not Viet ,,,,Nam...Only misinformed people would call it Viet...Nam...

  2. It's one word, Vietnam. Where do you see it as two words? some people say "Nam." That's all.

  3. What an interesting question! I have a postcard ... the picture is labelled in English: "HANOI - Hoan Kiem Lake - Vietnam". However, the postage stamps, presumably in Vietnamese, are "Viêt Nam".

  4. The first one

  5. I lived in Ha Noi for 4 years (yes, Ha Noi, not Hanoi). I read the Vietnam News, the official daily paper for much of that 4 years. I also know that the official name in Vietnamese is Viet Nam, and the name in English is normally written as Vietnam - but most Vietnamese would write Viet Nam, because that is the official name.

Now I distinctly remember it being Vietnam News, but if you go to this page you will see Viet Nam News at the top: http://vietnamnews.vnagency.com.vn/

If you go to the UNDP website, you will see Viet Nam at the top

    http://www.undp.org.vn/undpLive/?

The official name is Viet Nam, and for those that don't know it, that is understandable, because it isn't spelled that way in English (usually).

And anyone who is so foolish as to accuse others as being misinformed for using Viet Nam, just doesn't know what they are talking about.

  6. Vietnam is the correct spelling.

  7. It's correct both ways but westerners are more familiar with the one word spelling.

  8. During the war when many young men died the news here always used Vietnam.

  9. I am Vietnamese and I call my country's name: Việt Nam

  10. i tought it was vietnam...i only thought forrest gump said viet nam. lol. :)

  11. It is correctly both:

conventional long form: Socialist Republic of Vietnam

    conventional short form: Vietnam

local long form: Cong Hoa Xa Hoi Chu Nghia Viet Nam

    local short form: Viet Nam

    abbreviation: SRV

In the US, we refer to it as one word 'Vietnam' - there they are as likely to use 'Viet Nam'

In journalism in the US (if using the AP Stylebook) it is 'Vietnam' and never 'Viet Nam' but 'Viet Cong' is correct in context.  The late war is the 'Vietnam War'.

Either way, it is a proper name and is capitalized.

  12. Vietnam in english but Viets sometimes split the name as well as other nations. But if I were u I would stick to the one word.

  13. iraqnam
