If you show your love to your mother on mothers day, arent you gonna show it any other day? Same applies to any other "special" day. These are created by greeting card companies and candy companies to sell their goods. ;)

I have not heard of friendship day ever being celebrated, but most certainly father's and mother's day.  Your parents should enjoy a special day with family.  It also depends on how you celebrate. Just a simple meal together (which you have made yourself of course) would mean the world.  You don't have to buy presents because that is not what it is really about.

It is realistic only in western countries. West have lost the sense of love and blood relation, so atleast they can celebrate once a year. From Indian perspective it is meaningless as for us every day is monther and father day.

I don't celebrate ANY holidays or anniversaries of events based solely on the fact that the earth has completed another revolution around the sun.  I'm weird that way.

Those you specifically mentioned, though, were of course invented by greeting card companies.

Hallmark created holidays....not so much.

Everyday is a holiday, you just have to find out what makes it special.

Though it doesn't sound that realistic and I too beleive that are being publicized for commercial purpose but some where down the lane I feel that we take all our relationship as granted and in our everyday hurry and worry we just forget to tell them that how much they are important to our lives  and we need their love  their care their guidence in the twist and turns of our life. If such days work as a pause to look back to our most heartfelt relations and  with a warm hug we can say them that we love you more than word could say and we love you more and more each day .Don't you think it will add a little color to their life and make the bond more strong. It will cost you nothing but the moment will be priceless. Do remember -Their is something money can't buy.

I have a hard enough time remembering friends/families birthday's much less celebrating holidays like grandparents day, secretaries day etc... I do try at the very least to send a card or pick up the phone if I come across such a holiday.  

* I also "vow" on New Year's as part of my resolutions to remember birthdays and send cards.... I usually get "slack" in the summer!  

*  I do "celebrate" National Woman's Friendship Day the 3rd. Sept. every yr.  I send my sorority sisters/female friends and e-card or real card just to catch up and let them know they are special.... My sorority started the holiday....
