Question:

Is it really, REALLY possible to induce your own labor?

I don't actually believe it is, and have been attacked all morning, because of my stance on the situation.

I really genuinely believe a baby does come when it's ready, and am tired of being reported or scalded for saying it!

So, has anyone actually had a BONAFIDE successful self induction?

I do read people swearing by their own methods, which is fair enough, each to their own, but a lot of these are " I drank a tea, and 4 days later I had the baby"

Surely labor could have occurred naturally in that time?

How do you know it's not just a coincidence?

Anyway, I'm NOT attacking anyone who chooses to self induce, since a lot of doctors are the ones dishing out the induction advice anyway (after the baby is due of course, although I may have slight opinions against inducing before a doctor ok's it, just because moms uncomfy!-being pregnant myself I can relate to the bad aspects of it)

For the record I'm not actually trying anything at all, if bubs doesn't come naturally and I need to be induced, then so be it.

I was just curious if anyone had 'instant success' with these methods.

Thanks, and don't report me simply if you don't like my opinion. I'm open to hearing everyone's of course, even the nasty!

  1. I had my doctor strip my membranes and was in labor within hours.

Nipple stimulation done right can work but is not recommended in alot of cases because the contractions come on too strong.

I do believe your body needs to be ready to some extent though...

  2. i think it all comes down to at the end of the day the baby will come when he is ready. and honestly some of the techniques of "self induction"can be harmful such as castor oil...it is not good to give yourself diahreah because all you are doing is dehydrating yourself.

  3. It is suppose to be possible i dunno I tried everything... walking helps induce it and the seamen from s*x softens your cervix... thats all i know sorry

  4. HI! I know everyone is pretty "passionate" on here huh? FYI I saw a Lady on Baby Story this morning who's midwife had her take castor oil and it worked for her :) And it worked for my husband's aunt as well. I'm afraid of the poo and pain

Well I tried jumping on a trampoline yesterday and that didn't help. :( I'm so ready to have this baby!  Ok Good Luck!!!

  5. I have to agree with you and Im glad you brought it up. I see so many women here asking how to do induce their labor because they are tired, the baby will come whe he/she is ready. Inducing your own labor too soon can cause death. I dont agree with anyone inducing their own labor besides walking and s*x.

  6. Walking a good distance has worked for us. Walked all morning, heavy labor by evening.

  7. My neighbor is a Ob-gyn with 5 kids. With two of them she drank castor oil and it put her into labor. Keep in mind this will also give you diahrea.

  8. I totally agree with you. When I was pregnant with my son I tried everything. I walked A LOT (about 1.5 miles in a straight shot) a day (military so I had to), and then had s*x, drank the castor oil (Don't reccommend it!!!) and drank a glass or red wine and NOTHING worked!! I ended up being induced 2.5 weeks after his due date!

  9. well when i was pregnant with my daughter I was tired and miserable.  My friend told me to walk and have s*x.  I did. I had s*x then went for a long walk, a very long walk that same night i went into labor.  No lie.

  10. i dint really believe that tea drinking or stuff like that but my mother (not intentionally) lifted a 5L petrol can and put herself into labour...im currently 23 weeks and im just going to wait till baby is ready to come i wont try any of those self induce labours...not worth it

    good luck with baby
