I am 40 yrs. old, single and a bread winner of the family. I have a brother who is 38 yrs old, and have so many vices in life, he is single too. He has a good job but cant report to work everyday because he doesnt have money always. What I did is i provided his expenses first so that after the payday he would have allowance till the next payday. But when he got his salary he drunk all day which resulted his allowance to suffer too. Now i feel guilty because i did not give him a single penny anymore and he could not report to work again because he doesnt have allowance. Am i bad or i just did the right thing?

  1. It's not a big problem having family ties. But it seems like it is in our blood to help our family and it has its advantages and disadvantages. Don't feel guilty because where do you think the money would go if you keep lending him money? No where right? You're doing the right thing. Common sense.

  2. No because it's one of the culture.  Anyway I think you are right to give him a lesson so he will know how important if you save money and where to spend it. Don't feel guilty it's just a matter of teaching him a lesson.

  3. what you did is right. he is 38 yrs old and he ought to be responsible. its about time to let him stand on his feet and learn from his mistakes. Give him advice that drunkard is no good.

  4. Honestly, you need to stop taking care of your 38 yr. old brother.  If he's not man enough to take care of himself, so be it.  Let him worry about his own money and his career.  You need to take care of yourself and stop stressing over him.  It looks like he might also have a drinking problem and by helping him with his issues, you are enabling him, which is worse!
