Is it really as bad as people say if I use my sony vx2000 to capture video on my computer?

  1. The Sony DCR-VX2000 is a prosumer grade, standard definition, miniDV tape based, camcorder. Fairly high-end and with the big lens and imaging chips and easy to reach manual controls, it will do a much better job than pretty much all of the smaller consumer cams - especially in low light. The only cameras will do better are high definition cams - but I think the VX2000 will still do better than the consumer HD cams - in low-light.

    Whoever is telling you the video will be bad from that camcorder has (a) never used it, and (b) has no idea what they are talking about... either that or they are trying to get you to give it to them because they know it is a good camcorder.

    Being a miniDV based camcorder, you need to transfer using a firewire cable to the DV port of the camcorder and the firewire400 port of your computer. If your computer does not have a firewire port, hopefully it has an expansion slot so you can add one. DV from the miniDV tape will not transfer over USB.

    Firewire, i.LINK, IEEE1394a and DV are all the same thing.
