Well first of all I'm not the one thats pregnant. However, my cousins gf is 6 months and has dyed her hair twice! One time all with one color, the next time with highlights. Then she's gotten her nails done, can that really harm the baby?

  1. They say that if you dye your hair like black it's not good as it's sits on the scalp. Highlights are fine as they never touch the root. If you get your nails done they say to wear a mask because of the fumes. I won't do my nails tough, maybe just a mani pedi...

  2. Not enough studies to prove one way or the other.  My doctor said the amount of time that you are exposed to the chemicals during highlights and hair dying isn't enough to make any effect on the child at all, so he gave the green light for hair dying and acrylic nails etc.

  3. I am pregnant and my doctor told me that dying my hair is safe as long as i am in a well ventilated room and using dye with low ammonia levels. But i'm not sure about the nails.I wouldn't get my nails done because the fumes in nail parlours are very overwhelming and i'm sure that's not good for her or the baby.

  4. No and no. Assuming it was well ventilated. Don't worry about it, it is HER baby,

  5. No no no. It's fine. They recommend you wait til after the first trimester. Ive 31 weeks and have had my hair done 3 times.

  6. No it will not harm the baby I get my nails done all the time during both of my pregnancys and dyein your hair thats fine I use relaxers on my hair and i ask my doc about it wit my first pregnancy and he said it was ok but if shes in her first trimester then she needs to wait

  7. Some doctors say yes and some say no. It's not up to anyone to decide expect her doctor.

  8. The highlights arent good at all because she was breathing in all of that peroxide. As far as getting her nails done its not good but she would be ok if she would wear a mask to cover her nose and mouth from the chemicals.

  9. I got my nails down all through both of my pregnancies, but I have heard that hair dye fumes are bad for pregnant women. Sorry I can't get into to detail I don't know that much but I don't think its worth looking good and putting your baby at risk

  10. NO.

When I was pregnant with my son (now 2 1/2) I didn't get an official "no" or "yes" but I had dyed my hair when I was like 3 months along and didn't know any better. My son was totally healthy! I read and heard all kinds of opinons - but let me tell you this:

I'm due October 25th, with #2, and I asked my doctor when I went in and had my first blood tests done, if dying my hair was going to be a problem, and he said NO. It's not something that is directly affecting the baby. Think of it this way - if you're breathing in nail fumes, hair dye fumes, whatever it is, really it's just killing your braincells, not your baby's. Your baby is safe in there. If it's something that is really bad like she's doing this every two weeks, that's not really healthy for HER let alone the baby....

but otherwise she should be safe!

It was great news that I could dye my hair (a pregnant woman lives to be pampered!) but because of my first pregnancy I actually stopped dying my hair and grew out my natural color while we were trying to get pregnant. My reason for that is because when I'm pregnant my hair grows SOO fast - so keeping up with roots is too much anyways!

    :o)

  11. My ob has never said anything to me about getting my nails done plus my nail lady is pg herself. so that cant be to harmful as far as the hair thing goes i don't believe its to harmful either i wouldn't be doing it all the time but every now and then is okay

  12. I get my hair permed and my nails and feet done constantly and my baby is doing just fine

  13. There have not been any studies that show that hair coloring during pregnancy is harmful to the baby, but there also haven't been any that show that it is safe.  At this point, it's up to each individual mother to decide whether or not to take the risk.  Personally, I made the choice to forego hair dye and manis/pedis during pregnancy -- I would rather look a little less put-together and know that I did everything possible to give my baby a healthy start than look great and wonder every day if I harmed my baby.
