Is it really bad to wash your dog once a week?

I have had people tell me its good and people tell me its bad. Can someone please tell me if its bad or good to wash your dog once a week or not. I would prefer to wash him twice a week but I dont because of what my wife says. Please give me some advice.

Yes it's bad.

But you can wash them with baking soda once a week.

It won't harm them, and it makes them smell less.

Just wash with doggy shampoo once a month. (every 4 weeks)

Yeah it's bad for the dog.  It's not a human, remember that!  Once every month or two months is plenty.  Washing too often leads to a dull coat and dandruff.

Yes, you should only bathe them AT THE MOST twice a month because they're skin is very sensitive and can become irritated easily.  Try buying special wipes from a pet store to keep your dog smelling fresh.

it will dry out his natural oils and he skin will become itchy and dry.so its not good to wash your dog that  often.

It really depends on the dog, and perhaps on the shampoo and/or conditioner you use.  If his skin remain healthy looking, it's fine.

It's bad.  Dogs should be washed no more than every 4-6 weeks unless absolutely necessary.  Bathing more frequently can cause dry, flaky skin, a dull coat, and an itchy dog, as well as actually making them smell more since it strips the natural oils from their coat that would normally help them to shed many odors, instead they are absorbed and held by the coat.  In between baths, as a freshen-up, you can wipe dirty areas with an unscented baby wipe or a pet wipe, or occasionally a quick rinse with plain water if the dog is muddy or such (no soap!)

Washing your pet too often can strip the coat of it's natural oils and can cause dry flaky skin.  Most dogs only need to be bathed once a month or once every two months. Double coated dogs can be easily cleaned by daily brushing and cleaning with wipes or dry shampoo. Unless you dog gets into lots of dirt, washing him once a week is a little extreme.

I would say every two weeks at the most. I would also use not only a good quality shampoo but a conditioner as well. If you feel the dog's coat is greasy or has flaky skin, switch the dog food to something with more protein and fat. My dog has no doggy odor and has a shiny, glossy coat, I feed it a raw meaty bones diet btw. I only wash my dog once a year before i had to do it once a month.

Of course some dogs such as german shepherds should not be washed very often at all, maybe once a year.

Yes it is. Dogs do not need to be bathed that much. once or twice a month that's it. constant washing will lead to dry skin and a crappy coat because you are stripping away the natural oils in both.

That is definitely extremely bad for the dog. I have heard it from at least 3 vets and @ least 20 dog owners. It takes out the dog's natural oils in their skin and dries it out. Bathing your dog that often leads to skin problems without a doubt. The minimum to bathe your dog is every 5 weeks, unless there is a serious emergency like they rolled in a puddle of mud or are infested with fleas and need a flea bath or something. Just bathing your dog for the plain reason of wanting to bathe him is unecceptable to the dog because he will have very dry, itchy skin. If he smeelss, spray some doggy deoderant on him. you can buy it in pet stores

It depends on the breed.

I do it once a week, because my dogs STINK if I don't! I want to do it twice a week seriously, but I limit it to once a week.

Use an oatmeal shampoo, so his skin won't dry out as much, and use a good conditioner on him too.

My dogs DO get into a lot of dirt! And they love it... But if I want them to come inside the house, they must bathe.
