Question:

Is it really difficult to apply for a Visa for Australia without a migration agent?

I'm a Chemical Engineer and I'm planning to migrate to Australia. I've asked around regarding the professional fees of migration agents who could help me process my application for a Permanenet Residency Visa, and it's around AUS$ 2,500 to 3,500. This is on top of all other fees I have to pay for the visa application itself. Is this the normal range? Would I really need a migration agent or can it be done without one? Thanks.

  1. Honestly I've never heard of someone using a migration agent.

If you look at http://www.immi.gov.au it should have all you need, don't waste your money on an agent.

  2. Australia has a web site with all the info you need to emigrate there. I don't know if they allow a traveler there to change to become an immigrant once you got there but I bet it happens. If you go as a tourist you have to have a ticket that shows you will be leaving! So use their government web site to see if you qualify. I was not eligible because I am over 50 and since they have socialized medicine, they didn't want me. You can also look at New Zealand which has similar restrictions but it is booming and could have more opportunities. If you have a firm that is hiring you in advance, they probably know what needs to be done. Contact their personnel office.
