  1. The only reason it is impossible is because the effects of friction will eventually cause the PMM to decelerate and eventually stop. And by PMM, scientists mean it will go on to infinity, not just 10 Trillion years

  2. no. if you were in a complete vacuum in a 0 G environment and spun something it would spin forever. there you go, perpetual motion. the problem is that the purpose of a perpetual motion machine is to have it do work. if you do work, you are extracting energy. if you extract energy, you slow it down. eventually to would extract all the energy, and it would stop. so really, a perpetual motion device is pointless.

  3. yes

  4. According to the theory it is impossible to reach because of friction loss. This does not mean we cannot approach this barrier as with the speed of light we can get very close and because these are barriers we already know there are ways around.

  5. Yes.  In the literal sense, no matter how you build your machine, energy is lost due to inertia and friction (with the air as well as other parts).  Bizarrely, most machine makers would add additional parts in an effort to make it work, merely reducing the efficiency.

Historically, perpetual motion machines were made that "appeared" to work.  In one example, a clock was rewound by using changes in barometric pressure.  Most people at the time had no idea what this was, and concluded that the device worked as advertised.

  6. Because of friction and other resistance, yes it will eventually lose its energy if no energy is put into it. In the absence of friction, it is theoretically possible to have a perpetual MOTION machine. e.g. if a ball has enough kinetic energy, it will keep rolling around a vertical hoop indefinitely in a frictionless environment. The problem is that it never does any work for you, it just maintains a certain energy content. Once you start to extract energy from the system, it will bring hte motion to a halt.
