Is it really my fault that I broke the piston on the work bike?

How was I to know to check the oil everyday? Who checks the oil everyday? My own bike only needs the oil filling hardly ever. Just cos i ride it for four hours or so a day (the workbike) are they really right in blaming me for that piston breaking? I checked the oil once a week. I put oil in it that morning.

I don't really care that much cos i hated that bike. But still. Nice to know how much I am to blame.

Anyways I have a nice new work bike now. I think its better than the old one.

  1. Put the coffee down and stay away from the keyboard....

  2. The best defense is a good offense.

Did you get hurt when the piston broke?  Sounds like you did check the oil on THAT day.  Seems like you could have a case against the manufacturer or the owner if it's not you and they're just trying to shovel the blame away from themselves--you could have been totaled.

No I don't check my oil every day.

  3. 1 Probably not.

2 You should have, because that bike was a piece of c**p.

    3 I don't, unless I'm riding a leaker or a smoker (or both).

Nice to hear you got a good ride now. Watch out for those jumping trees.

  4. yes, its your fault

    you broke the piston

I check the oil in my bike every day, even 3 times a day, everytime before I take it for a ride

  5. Wait, you get to ride a m/c at work?  I want that job!

  6. No it is not your fault, it the bike was using that much oil. It was only a mater of time before something broke.

  7. All bike manuals mention that you should check your oil levels daily but I really doubt if many people actually get around to doing that.

In a normally maintained bike, the colour of oil changes as it gets older.  The level really has no business to decrease unless there is a leak somewhere.

If your earlier bike was loosing oil, it is the job of the maintenance guys and not yours.  So ... I guess its not your fault after all !

  8. i check oil, brake fluid, and tires everytime I ride

    TCLOCS

  9. It was probably going to happen to the next person to use it.Good job getting new bike.
