Is it really necessary the GMAT ??

I wanna go to FIU in north miami for the hospitality managment. Now it says it's required to take the gmat, if you have a gpa lower than 3.0. Mine is 2.8. Now I have heard from some people that have applied anyways and got accepted even though they didnt have a gpa higher than 3.0. Does anybody know anything about that? Im paying straight out of pocket my education, will that influence with me getting accepted anyways?

I was under the impression that the GMAT was for graduate acceptance.... Anyways, don't count on exceptions, paying straight out of your pocket doesn't help or prove anything. Be glad they let you take the GMAT, a good score will improve your chances there and elsewhere.
