Some pro computer guy came and fixed up my computer and what not, but he added two virus programs, Mcafee Secruity, andd A-Squared Secruity, do I really need both, if not, which should I delete? I'm only asking because I need to clear up some space.

  1. Having 2 anti-virus software is a bad idea. They tend to conflict with each other and cause major problems and error. It's recommended to only have one ant-virus software running.

  2. It is the absolute worst thing to have on your computer. You are to only have one virus protection program on your compter, if you have mroe then one, this can cause conflict issues, where it will be difficult to detect and even remove infections. So I have no idea where he got his info from, but he is dead wrong.

The only thing that you can have more then one of is spyware protection. You can have as many of those as you like, but I wouldn;t go over three if it were me. I have two.

Here's what I use for my protection

    Virus protection

    AVG 8.0

    Spyware protection

    Spybot

    Yahoo anti-spyware.

So basicly you should at least have one virus protection program and one spyware program, as virus programs generally do not detect all spyware infection.

  3. No. That is a wast of Memory. I would recommend deleting both of them and Download the best antivirus there is Windows live one care. Trust me from experience it is the best. It is free for the first 3 months after that you can either get rid of it or pay the $50 a year to keep it. If you are to scared to do that then just delete the a squared.

  4. Keep McAfee.

  5. two is dumb, though mcafee and a-squared aren't necessarily both working as virus scanners - the guy might've installed and configured one to handle viruses and the other to handle firewall or spyware/malware stuff. in which case removing one is a bad idea because you're left unprotected on that front.

  6. To answer your question, I would recommend McAfee.... Now here is the thing. Two anti-virus programs cant be installed on one computer. Let's say that you had McAfee and Norton installed on your computer, then that would turn into a virus. One would think that the other is a virus and cause some major damage. So iI would say that the A-Squared is for your spyware protection. If not then you have a super COMPUTER.

  7. "Microsoft recommends that you have only one anti-virus program installed on your computer."

It is strongly recommended that you run only one antivirus program at a time. Having more than one antivirus program active in memory uses additional resources and can result in program conflicts and false virus alerts. Your best defense against computer viruses and malicious programs is to keep your virus definitions up to date.
