Is it really possible to get a driver's license at 14 in Florida?

My 14 year old friend surprised us all at a swim meet when she got up and said she was leaving. Someone else asked, "Who's picking you up?" and she said "I can drive now". She explained that she had gotten her driver's license in Florida.

Can you really do that? It doesn't sound likely to me.

  1. good god, I sure hope not...we need more young drivers on the road

    (*sigh*)

  2. No.

  3. Your friend is lying to you. You can get a permit to learn to drive and a regular license at 16 which you have to keep by staying in school.

  4. no

  5. no you have to first have ur permit for a whole year with atleast 30 hrs of exprience during that time before u can even take the test at 16 to get your DL

  6. No, chances are it's just a permit. Or maybe something like a farmer's permit, where you can drive on farm errands. But it's not surprising--I knew a slew of people when I was 14 who got I.P.s and drove with them.

Are you even in Flordia? Because there *is* a rule that if you have a liscence (or IP) in another state, you cant drive out of state until you have your full un-restricted liscense.

Dont quote me on that, but I'm pretty sure we learned it in Driver's Ed.

ADD: Though each state is different. From some of the answers, it looks like you have to be 15 before you can even get a permit.

They are looking at bumping it up (if they havent already) but when I began the whole "driving" stage 3 years ago, in my state, 14 was permit, 15 was restricted, 16 was liscense.

  7. No, I don't think that you can get a valid Driver's license at 14. You can't even get a driving permit until you are 15.

  8. No, you can get a learners permit at 15 but you must be accompanied by a licensed adult over the age of 21, then at 16 you can apply for your drivers license but not at 14.  She must be 16 or pulling your leg.

Per the State of Florida DMV:

    Learner's License

A learner's license allows you to practice driving while accompanied by a licensed adult age 21 or older. Learner's licenses do not entitle you to drive alone, and you will be restricted to driving during certain hours of the day.

If you're a teen younger than the age of 18, you'll need to have a restricted learner's license for at least a year before applying for a full Class E (unrestricted) driver license. There are no exceptions to this rule.

You must be at least 15 to apply. Provide the following:

Two original or certified identification documents.

Social Security card, if you have one.

Proof that you've completed a Traffic Law and Substance Abuse Education course. (If you have a license from another state or country, you can show it and this requirement will be waived.)

Parental Consent Form, which must be signed in the presence of the driver license examiner or notarized. Step-parents may not sign unless they have legally adopted you.

    $20 fee.

So if you have to be at least 15 to get a learners permit, there is no way a 14 year old can get a drivers license.

  9. Nope, here in Florida you have to be 16 atleast. So she is probaly lying.

  10. Since we have ID fraud there are many out there with false DLs At all ages>
