  1. you can have any dog as long as your are able to give it what it needs. If where you live is hot you are going to have to keep him cool. You could shave his fur a little..or if you don't want to do that buy a dog pool for him to keep cool in.

  2. I have seen Huskies in Key West but let me tell you they were NOT happy..

Huskies need 2 1/2 hours of daily exercise but that is not possible in hot climates with high humidity. Huskies like Mals overheat extremely easily and let me tell you it is not something i want to see again in a hurry.

A lot of people say "aw well his mum is from down here where it is hot and the pups will acclimatize" THAT IS NOT TRUE

For a Nordic breed to acclimatize to a hot climate will take 50 generations or more!!!

There are plenty of big breeds who endure hot and humid weather a lot better.  Be kind and considerate and do not buy a Nordic breed.

  3. i live in a hot place

    and i've seen huskies.

just provide plenty of water and keep their fur short.

  4. If you want a dog that constantly moults all over the carpets - then a husky in a hot climate will answer the problem perfectly.

Otherwise, if you live in a warm climate why not buy a suitable breed?  Breeds take centuries to acclimatize to their environment, and there is nothing crueler than to see a Nordic breed lethargic and unhappy because it is too warm.

In France and |taly many sled dog racers don't bother to breed from their dogs, as the Police constantly bring in abandoned huskies (9,000 last year in France) as owners can't handle the problems of a husky in a centrally-heated home or warm climate.

Dog ownership is a two-way thing - you should provide the right climate and environment for your dog;  in return it will give you unstinting loyalty and devotion.

Best of luck with choosing a suitable breed.

  5. Not if you like your dog well-done. [Personally, I prefer then medium-rare.] Just leave it out for a few hours in the afternoon and it should be ready by dinnertime.

  6. I live in Ohio-its cold in the winter but hot in the summer-we have a husky, my sister does as well. They seem to do ok, you just want to make certain they have plenty of shade and water of course.

  7. God... these people know NOTHING!!!! They make me so mad.

I have a husky in San Antonio, TEXAS. At the dog park, Huskies always outnumber any other breed. There is absolutely nothing wrong with having a husky in a warmer climate. It is not cruel. NEVER SHAVE A HUSKY!!! You will ruin their undercoat. The undercoat protects them against extreme weather, including hot and cold. They regulate their body temp just like any other dog. Be prepared for year round shedding. They usually only blow their coats twice a year but some shed all year round. Mine does. Sometimes diet helps and fish oil. Brushing often is a must.

  8. If it's very hot where you live, you should keep your home well ventilated and make sure your dog has access to fresh water and shade outdoors.

On another note, you need to be able to answer all of these questions yourself before buying a husky. They aren't the dog breed for everyone and you need to know a lot about them before buying one. ;)

    Best of luck.
