I'm pretty small, 5'2.. 120 lbs. I really want to get a motorcycle, But I've been getting a lot of laughs when I tell people.. What kind of bike would be best to start with, considering my height and weight?

  1. Honda rebels were designed for women I think. From what people tell me you can learn pretty good on those and then handle a bigger bike later if ya want.

  2. Check out the short bike list:

    http://www.nebcom.com/noemi/moto/sbl.sbl...

    Short bikes for BEGINNERS

  3. Go to a motorcycle store and ask someone that works there what they would recommend for you.. Btw don't let people say you cant do something because of your height and weight.

  4. s***w them. I'm 5'4" and I bought an old Triumph that I intend to restore and ride.  Go to a bike shop and they'll let you sit on a few bikes to find one that is the right size for you.  Like me, you'll be limited by how far you can spread your legs and how tall the bike is.  For proper control, just like riding a bicycle you should have your legs on the ground when sitting on the bike.

  5. it's no harder for a female than it is for a male. as for a starter bike, that depends on what kind you want. sportbike, cruiser, etc.

good list of beginner bikes, with the main styles represented

  6. yeah, those people are sexist, you have nothing to worry about.  If you can ride a bike with relative ease, it shouldn't be too hard to ride a motorcycle with the right training.

  7. Check out the cruiser lines of 250cc bikes. Honda, Suzuki, and Yamaha. They are all about the same. Try them at the dealer to see if you can touch the ground with BOTH feet and the bike upright. Once you learn HOW to ride, then consider the Sportster 883L. Not a bad looking bike and not unreasonably priced either. I am looking at that one for my wife but need to try it on her for size. She is short too.

  8. you need to start with a small bike like a kawasaki nighthawk , if you get a huge harley for your first bike it will be to heavy for you to pick up if you fall over

  9. Start out with the Motorcycle Safety Foundation's Basic Rider's Course.  It includes 5 hours of classroom instruction and 10 hours of hands-on rider training.  Everything is supplied including the bikes and helmets.  You only need long pants (jeans are fine), a long-sleeved shirt, and weather appropriate outer clothing.  Footwear that goes over the ankle is also highly recommended.  Go here for more information:  http://www.msf-usa.org

For a first bike, look at something in the 250cc class.  Anything larger is simply not safe for a novice.  Only fools start out on a Harley, even a Sportster.

  10. Check out the Harley 883 Sportser.  They should be perfect for you.  Then you can a bigger tank to make it look bigger.  So it will look like a bigger bike.

  11. well r u talking about a street legal or a dirt bike or ATV

get back........... and i will help

  12. These bikes are the most popular with new riders, females and short people.

Because of their light weight, low seat height and ease of operation.

Like others had said, take a course - you'll learn in a snap.

  13. My daughter rides a Yamaha 250 Virago.  I think its an impressive small cruiser.  Our friend, also in her twenties, loves her Kymco Venox 250.  Both of these bikes will do 70 mph.

250cc cruisers are used by MSF instructors because they are easiest to learn on.

These dim bulbs who are telling you  "Harley" ought to go play in another section where their idiot advice can't get anyone hurt.

  14. its not that hard. those people are just sexist

  15. prolly something like this:
