Is it really time to reform U.S. agricultural laws at last?

Uncle Sam literally pay farmers not to grow food.But as ethanol is being used more often now,it's now competing for food supplies as well. Should we just allow farmers to be able to plant as much as they want and also to be able to sell whomever they want in the world as well.

Uncle sam isn't paying the farmers NOT to farm.  He is paying them for the public benefit everyone of us recieves, by protecting our environment.  

Most land that is not farmed is in poor areas.....fields that flood, land that errodes a lot, and additional land near existing wildlife areas.  

The farmer already has a choice to stop a conservation program and continue producing corn...in todays market many are.  

Such short sighted questions....lemmi guess...someone made one statement about how farmers are paid not to farm, but they can't get paid to not shop, or drive or talk for that matter.

its a shame one comment can make people think so small.

if we didnt pay farmers not to grow food, all of the land would be used -up to make a quick buck.  it's been a very long time since there was a food shortage in the u.s.  , but it could happen if the land is not managed

The set-aside acres around here are usually the fields that tend to flood, or have alot of draws through them.

They could be farmed, but then the wildlife people cry because their is not enough habitat for their feathered friends.

You can't make everybody happy.

if you can put a law on something, you would be sure whne it was time to do things to it dont you,.

I was going to answer your question but Ayla B and billy o did a great job.  A person should not ask a question and include such a statement with it unless he knows what he is talking about.  If you had just asked your question and not tried to solicit the answer you were looking for, it would have been a good question.
